A toric lens is a special contact lens that you wear if you have astigmatism. This is an abnormality in which your cornea or eye lens is not nicely round, but more oval. As a result, the light does not refract evenly, and you often see things blurred or distorted, both up close and far away.
A regular (spherical) contact lens only corrects myopia or farsightedness, but not that uneven curvature. A toric lens does. It has different strengths in different directions, so that the light falls neatly on your retina.
Because the lens must stay in exactly the right place, toric lenses have a smart design that makes them less likely to rotate in your eye. Sometimes you feel that they fit a little differently than regular lenses, but after a short adjustment period you hardly notice it anymore.
You can choose from daily lenses, monthly lenses or even soft and hard variants. Which one suits you best depends on your eyes, your lifestyle and of course the advice of your Oogwereld optician.
In short: with toric lenses you can see clearly and comfortably despite astigmatism.
