Better materials are being developed so that the oxygen supply to the eye remains optimal during wear. This is essential to keep the eyes healthy.
For the same reason, it is very important that contact lens wearers have their eyes regularly checked by the contact lens specialist. Thanks to all current developments, almost anyone who wants to, young or old, can now wear contact lenses. If you want to be sure or would like more information, please make an appointment without obligation with one of our contact lens specialists. You hardly have to get used to soft lenses. They are immediately very comfortable. However, some eye errors cannot be corrected very well, but if it is possible, you can make the choice together with our contact lens specialist: soft or shape-retaining.
Soft lenses are generally slightly larger than rigid lenses and move slightly less on the eye. This means that dust cannot get underneath, which sometimes happens with rigid lenses.
Partly for this reason, soft lenses are ideally suited to wear during sports. Even during contact sports, soft lenses can be worn without any problems.

Multifocal soft lenses, the solution for near and far
If you are over 40, you may have difficulty seeing at short distances. You're watching TV or leafing through the newspaper and your eyes are getting tired. Multifocal soft lenses are a perfect solution for this. A stepless multifocal zone is created with extreme precision, so that the lens has multiple powers. Whether you're in the car or behind your computer, you can see everything clearly from any distance.
With toric lenses you can correct astigmatism very well
Not all eyes are exactly round. Sometimes they have a deviation in the shape of a rugby ball instead of a football. As a result, the curvatures of the eye are not equal and the image is not accurately depicted on your retina. We call this phenomenon astigmatism. Nowadays, such an eye defect can easily be corrected with cylindrical or toric lenses. After our contact lens specialist has done a number of tests, so-called toric form-retaining contact lenses are made especially for your eyes that combine two strengths. And with that you get a sharper image on your retina. Regular rigid lenses have the advantage that they automatically correct a small degree of astigmatism. In that case you do not need special toric lenses.
Oogwereld keeps a close eye on developments in the field of contact lenses.
There is a clear difference between toric rigid and toric soft lenses.
Toric soft lenses have a thickening (or another type of stabilization) so that the lens must remain stable on the eye. However, if the toric soft lens rotates, the sharpness decreases. Toric rigid lenses, on the other hand, have two different curvatures. This means they stabilize directly on the eye and are less dependent on rotation of the lens. With toric form-retaining lenses you always see clearly. The eye examination by our contact lens specialist will show whether your eyes need (which type of) toric lenses.
