What are headache complaints and dizziness?
Almost everyone suffers from headaches or dizziness sometimes. This can have various causes. An eye disorder almost never causes a headache, but the cause can be ophthalmic. Your eyes are often not corrected or not corrected properly: you are not wearing glasses even though you need them, or your glasses/contact lenses are not correcting properly.
How do I recognize headache complaints and dizziness?
Headache can be recognized by the following complaints:
-
Pain on one or more sides of the head
-
Stabbing, aching or pounding pain in the head
Dizziness can be recognized by the following complaints:
-
A light-headed feeling
-
The feeling that the environment is moving or rotating
-
Nausea
What causes headaches and dizziness?
Headache complaints and dizziness can have ophthalmological causes. If your complaints are caused by the fact that your eyes are not corrected or are not corrected properly, you often have the following complaints:
-
The headache occurs during the day
-
You get a headache after reading or working with a screen for a long time
-
The headache is above the eyes
Do you recognize the above symptoms?
Then it may be that the cause is indeed an ophthalmological problem, such as:
-
A not (properly) corrected strength deviation
-
(child) farsightedness in young people (hyperopia, plus strength)
-
Overcorrected myopia (myopia, too much weakness)
-
Needing one reading glasses (presbyopia)
-
Cylindrical deviation
Migraine and eye complaints
Headache and eye problems can also be a symptom of migraine. Migraines come in different forms. There is normal migraine, classic migraine, but also ocular migraine. Ocular migraine does not have to be accompanied by a headache and can cause various eye complaints, such as:
-
Seeing a growing spot
-
Jagged figures (zigzag)
-
Stars or heat waves
-
Temporary visual field loss
-
Temporary narrowing of visual field and/or tunnel vision
-
Flashes of light and/or auras
To determine whether your headache can be explained ophthalmologically, it is important to have your eyes carefully examined. To do this, we perform a standard eye test, but also an additional test. During this extra examination we will put drops in your eyes. This means that your eyes can no longer make any effort and focus for a moment. This is necessary so that we can properly see what is going on. If you would like to know more about this research, please contact us.
Wrong strength and dizziness
Just like headaches, dizziness also has many different causes. If it has to do with your eyes, these are the most common causes:
-
No or incorrect strength of your contact lenses or glasses
-
Glasses that have been ground incorrectly in your glasses or are not completely straight
-
The cooperation between your eyes is not optimal
Find out the cause
With headaches and dizziness, it is always important to find out where your complaints come from. The Oogwereld specialists can help you with this and investigate whether it is your eyes.
